The first “real” six-string was a black Les Paul copy I bought in a pawn shop in Ottawa. It arrived within a few days and I still have it. Much later a guy came up to me in a club in Berlin and told me that my neighbour had died in a plane crash, but he knew he’d promised to send me the guitar. Years later he wrote to me asking if I wanted it back, but then I didn’t hear again. We were on our way to live in Israel, and then when I left that country I gave it to my young neighbour, an aspiring musician.
